Latinx Student Groups

La Casa Latina is home to over 20 different Latinx student groups, involving everything from dance and pre-professional groups, to Greek life and cultural groups. Below is a list of these groups; feel free to reach out to them with any inquiries!

The Andean Representation (AREP)

The Andean Representation is an organization designed for the spread, advancement, and acknowledgment of Andean culture at the University of Pennsylvania. We are an all-inclusive organization aiming to provide a unique space for students identifying as Andean as well as those interested in Andean culture.

Campus Curlz

Campus Curlz, Inc. is a national collegiate natural hair and service-based organization that aims to enhance, educate, and uplift individuals on campus and in the community through educational support and community service. Our vision is to unite like-minded individuals who share a common interest in the diversity of multicultural backgrounds, a love for service in their surrounding community, and utilizing their voices to make a difference. We host innovative, engaging, and educational events, programs, and community service projects on our respective campuses and in our neighboring communities to raise awareness and inform our peers about the importance of a healthy and well-rounded lifestyle.

Cipactli Latinx Honor Society

The Cipactli Latinx Honor Society was founded in 2001 at the University of Pennsylvania. The mission and purpose of the is to acknowledge individual academic achievement, valued leadership, and distinguished service to the Latino community. Today Cipactli continues its dedication to the Latinx population at Penn and in the surrounding Philadelphia community. Cipactli is the only Latinx Honor Society in the Ivy League and all of our members, whether of Latinx heritage or not, are representative of our mission and purpose.

Cuban American Undergraduate Student Association (CAUSA)

The University of Pennsylvania Cuban American Undergraduate Student Association (CAUSA) aims to advance awareness of Cuban and Cuban American culture within the Penn community and to provide an open space for the discussion of Cuban and Cuban American affairs. We dually strive to educate the campus community about the advancement of human rights in Cuba.

Festival LatinX

Festival Latinx is a week-long celebration where different cultural and minority-serving organizations come together to host events covering topics such as identity, community, and professional development.

Fuerza

Fuerza is Penn’s first and only Latinx music group. Founded in 2019, our mission is to provide a safe space for students in the greater Philadelphia area to creatively explore Latinx culture through musical performance. We are Latinx inspired, not Latinx exclusive.

Grupo Quisqueyano (GQ)

GQ was established to serve the interest of the Dominican and Haitian populations at the University of Pennsylvania.

Istmo y Vos (I.Vos)

The mission of I.Vos is to provide support for Central American students at the University of Pennsylvania and to educate the larger Penn community on Central American history, culture, and issues. Central America is politically, culturally, and economically significant both as a region and on a global scale. As Central American-identifying students at the University of Pennsylvania and in the U.S.A., it is crucial to remember the countries that influence our lives, culturally and socially.

The Latin American Graduate & Professional Student Assembly (LAGAPSA)

The Latin American Graduate and Professional Student Assembly (LAGAPSA) enhances the quality of life for graduate and professional students of Latin American, Latina/o/x, and/or Hispanic descent at the University of Pennsylvania through a centralized, campus-wide organizational structure that addresses their academic, social, political, community, and cultural needs and concerns through programming, services, and advocacy.

Latinx Coalition

The Latinx Coalition is the umbrella organization for all Latinx groups on campus. It serves as the voice of all Latinx students at an administrative level and hope to foster a sense of community for all at the University of Pennsylvania.

La Vida Magazine

La Vida Magazine is Penn’s only Latinx interest publication, established in 2001 as a short printed newsletter by the Cipactli Latino Honor Society of the University of Pennsylvania. We publish a variety of submissions, including visual art, poetry, prose, and critical essays. We celebrate the diversity of Latinx culture, and as such, we strive to acknowledge Latinx voices on campus. As of 2017, we have expanded submissions to the entire Ivy League.

Lambda Theta Alpha (LTA)

The Beta Epsilon Chapter of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated, is poised to be at the forefront of creating alternative and inclusive spaces for students of color and members of our surrounding historically marginalized communities. Our chapter represents a group of diverse people who always strive for the highest level of excellence, as our founders intended. Shared goals and interests in areas of service, academics, and building solid relationships hold our chapter together and define who we are.

La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc.

La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Incorporated primarily seeks to take a leadership role in meeting the needs of the Latino community through academic achievement, cultural awareness, community service and promotion of the Latino culture and people. The Delta Chapter was founded on April 24, 1988.

Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan (MEChA)

MEChA is a club meant to create space for Penn’s Mexican-American students or anybody else interested in our culture and struggles. Through MEChA, we hope to promote conversations about race, ethnicity, gender, etc.

Mex@Penn

As an undergraduate organization, Mex@Penn works to foster the unity of students brought together by a passion and love for Mexico, as well as to share its culture with others at the University of Pennsylvania. From this our motto: “love of the motherland is our law.”

Minority Association of Pre-Health Students (MAPS)

The Minority Association of Pre-Health Students (MAPS) is an organization that strives to create a supportive and encouraging environment in which minority Pre-Health students can thrive at Penn.

Minorities in Nursing Organization

Founded in 2001, the Minorities in Nursing is an organization formed with the mission of promoting cultural awareness within the School of Nursing and the University at large. Regardless of age, race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation, MNO is an organization that is open to everyone. We are committed to providing social and academic support to our members and we seek to create a forum for discussion about culture and its importance to the nursing practice. In order to accomplish this goal, we hold programming that includes but is not limited to, talks with professors, hosting potlucks, and discussing how our individual cultures and/or background may impact our life at Penn and Penn Nursing. Other programming also includes community service events, study sessions and social events such as game nights and movie screenings.

Mujeres Empoderadas (ME)

Mujeres Empoderadas (M.E.) is a safe space inclusive to femme-identifying folks who identify with the Latinx and/or Hispanic cultural experience. Our mission is to encourage dialogue surrounding issues that affect Latina and/or Hispanic women, and provide them with the opportunity to share experiences, advice, and support. Above all, we seek to strengthen and empower the women in our community.

Onda Latina

Onda Latina, which means “Latin Wave,” is Penn’s first and only LatinX dance group. Our goal is to continue in the tradition of ONDA LATINA as promoters of education, entertainment, and the genuine experience of dance: fun.

Orgullo Latino Fashion Association (OLFA)

Orgullo Latino Fashion Association (OLFA) is an undergraduate student fashion club at Penn dedicated to encouraging a welcoming space dedicated to uplifting Latinx voices and showcasing diverse Latinx representation. We seek to provide an inclusive community for Latinos to explore the intersection between their creativity and identity.

Penn for Immigrant Rights (PIR)

Penn for Immigrant Rights (PIR) is a social and political advocacy group dedicated to opening up the dialogue about undocumented immigrants and immigration in general. We strive to educate Penn’s campus and the Philadelphia community through demonstrations and workshops that seek to dismantle misconceptions about immigration

Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc.

A Latina based, but not Latina exclusive cultural sorority aimed at providing a community for underrepresented women in the Penn Community through leadership, sisterhood, academic excellence, cultural enrichment, and Service to the community.

Society of Hispanic Professionals Engineers (SHPE)

SHPE aims to empower the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to affect the world through STEM awareness, access, support, and development. Our club does a variety of events with community service, academic development, professional development, and social events.

Wharton Latino

Wharton Latino is an undergraduate organization established with the purpose of promoting and bringing together the Latino community within the University of Pennsylvania. The club encourages a focus on professional, social, and community service initiatives by fostering them through the organization of various events, such as our annual Valentine’s Day Rose Sale, Career Conference, Freshman Dinner, among others. The club currently counts with around 200 active members, over 600 subscribers to the mailing list serve, and 20 sponsors.
